Step 1: Match the Trim Height to Your Tile Thickness
Measure the tile thickness, usually 6mm to 12mm for wall tiles and more for floor or porcelain slabs. The trim should match it, so the trim’s visible edge sits flush with the tile surface. Common trim heights run in 2mm steps, such as 8mm, 10mm and 12mm.
Step 2: Pick the Right Shape
- Square (L-angle): modern, minimalist spaces.
- Round (quadrant): a softer look and safer corners in family areas.
- Cove: inside corners, where it makes cleaning easier.
Step 3: Choose the Material for the Environment
Bathrooms, kitchens and outdoor areas need moisture-resistant materials. See our [material comparison] for help.
Step 4: Decide Between Blending In and Standing Out
A trim in a colour close to your tiles disappears into the design, while a contrasting one becomes an accent. Black or brushed gold looks striking on white tiles. Chrome or silver suits cool, modern palettes.
Step 5: Check the Length and Quantity
Trims usually come in 2.5m lengths. Measure every edge, add about 10% for cuts and mistakes, and buy the full amount at once so finishes match.
Step 6: Think About the Area’s Use
High-traffic floors need heavier trims, and kids’ bathrooms are better with rounded edges.
